Vangsveien

Statens Vegvesen (The Norwegian Public Roads Administration) and Rambøll

Vangsveien in Hamar is the main road into Hamar Centre. In 2014, a stretch of Vangsveien about 600 meters in length was upgraded to an environmental route. Focusing on planting, broader pavements and wider cycle paths, Vangsveien was transformed from a dull main road into a vibrant city street where pedestrians and cyclists were granted more space and improved conditions. Precisely this focus on creating a “green” street has made it much more attractive to move around for pedestrians.

The use of vegetation is very extensive with 110 new trees and over 5000 perennials. The trees are a key part of the project and there was therefore an intense focus on the choice of tree species and optimisation of growth conditions.
