Värtaterminalen, Stockholm

Mads Mandrup, arkitekt · C.F. Møller Architects
Helena Emrani & Stefan B, landskabsarkitekt, Nivå · Landskapsakitektur AB Gabbab

The layout of the terminal is derived from traditional port architecture, encompassing large structures, the undulating motion of the water and the movement of business. The vision was to connect the port and city with buildings at the same height to allow the possibility of exiting the port area and away from vehicle traffic. The roofs of the port buildings are formed as a landscape of stairs, ramps and windbreaks. This permits visitors to move about and enjoy the view of the ferries, water and the city outskirts. Solar and geothermal energy have been incorporated, making the terminal self-sufficient and environmentally certified Gold by the Green Building Council.
