Rooftop terrace at Electrolux Group

Archus Arkitektur AB

A rooftop terrace with creative solutions in steel and wood

On the roof of Electrolux Group’s headquarters on Kungsholmen in Stockholm, employees and residents now have access to a brand-new green outdoor space. The terrace features multi-level wood and tile decking, an outdoor kitchen and gym, a boules court, and planting beds where residents can grow their own crops.

The challenge: Adapting to varying levels

A project of this scale and complexity requires solutions that can adapt to unique conditions. The main challenge was creating edging and planters that followed the many level differences across the roof. This is where our Contrast Freestyle™ system played a key role. The custom-designed corten steel planters not only provide deep planting beds for trees and shrubs – they also connect the different levels and bring cohesion to the design.

Upland™ terrace system

For parts of the terrace structure, our Upland™ solution was used. The modular system makes it easy to establish raised decks and conceal installations beneath the surface. On Electrolux’s rooftop, it was applied to the tiled areas, but it can also be combined seamlessly with wood decking.

The result

The result is a robust and inviting outdoor environment in the sky, where architecture and landscape design merge into a vibrant space that supports both community and recreation. A terrace built to last – and built to be enjoyed.
