Forum Medicum, Lund
Green public spaces at Forum Medicum, Lund University
When Lund University built the new Forum Medicum health science centre, great emphasis was placed on creating green outdoor spaces that invite relaxation, movement, and reflection.
At the main entrance, landscape architects Landskapsgruppen AB designed an urban space where organically shaped planting beds, meandering paths, and carefully selected materials come together in a harmonious whole. The outdoor environment is part of the Vinnova project Restorative Workplaces and was designed based on environmental psychology and contemporary research. The aim was to offer a varied outdoor experience with access to both sun and shade, and different types of seating areas.
The planting design has been carefully selected with a focus on species that promote biodiversity – including important nectar and host plants for a wide range of insects.
Milford’s contribution
The gently curving planting beds are framed with 6 mm steel edging in varying heights from our Contrast Freestyle™ series. These edges, adapted to the site's topography, provide a durable and elegant transition between paved surfaces and lush greenery.
Contrast Freestyle™ is an EPD-certified system, custom-designed for each project and delivered ready for installation.
Also featured are two custom-designed benches with integrated tables from the same system. Made from Swan eco-labeled thermally modified pine, the benches follow the soft curves of the landscape and offer a natural gathering point amidst the greenery – perfect for a break in the sun or an informal chat.
