Frederiks Brygge
When we build residential areas in major cities, there are many challenges to be solved – from the design of the homes to outdoor spaces and placement in the landscape. Frederiks Brygge is located in Copenhagen's southern harbor, along the heavily trafficked Vasbygade. Today, more than 600 homes have been created there for a broad cross-section of the population, from families with children to elderly individuals living alone. The sense of community is found, in the outdoor areas, where five courtyards with communal houses and plenty of greenery create quality of life and a sense of belonging.
Step-free access in all homes
For new residential construction, the Building Regulations (BR18) require step-free access, which is a prerequisite for creating a diverse residential area. And so is, 15 centimeters of clear plinth space to minimise the risk of, among other things, moisture damage to the plinth.
To meet these requirements and create quality construction, our Threshold channel, Canyon 2.0 has been chosen. This Threshold channel has adjustable brackets and can therefore simultaneously meet the requirement for step-free access and clear plinth space. The adjustable bracket also saves time on shimming against the plinth, particularly if the plinth is uneven.
Flexible, green areas
Plenty of young trees and greenery have been planted in planting boxes, which help to create a beautiful aesthetic between the newly built homes in the approximately 80,000 m² area. With the flexible edging system, various planting boxes have been created with varying heights and expressions – from an understated edge around the beds along the path to raised planting boxes with young trees.
To achievethe result, our flexible edge border, Contrast Freestyle has been used. We supplied it in custom dimensions, so neither the architect nor the landscape contractors had to compromise on their visions.
